Every once in a while, a couple comes along and absolutely steals a bit of my heart. Sarah and Matt are one of those couples.

Sarah and Matt, it makes total sense to me that you hit it off immediately on your first date and have been connected ever since. The way you two work together and understand each other blows me away. While your wedding was momentous, stunning, and had all the grandiosity of a once-in-a-lifetime event, it also didn’t seem like an ending or a beginning. It felt like another part of your journey together. Another step closer in the bond that began at your first date.

You know I am smitten with you two, and we’re now friends for life. :P I am beyond excited to share with you this sneak peek from your wedding day. Enjoy!

Los Angeles Wedding - The Jeremy Hotel LA - Christopher and Jason

“I’m everything I am because you loved me.”

Jason stopped dancing with his mother during their dance together, he looked her in the eyes, and he made sure she heard the lyrics to the song as it played. “I’m everything I am because you loved me,” he mouthed, to make sure she got the impact of her contribution to his life.

This wasn’t the only moment of true connection and expressed gratitude during Jason and Christopher’s wedding. In fact, there seemed to be a steady ebb and flow of deeply powerful and moving expressions of love and appreciation followed by moments where we could all laugh and catch our breath. Those beautiful moments just kept coming, and that speaks to Jason and Christopher and their community of friends and family.

Jason and Christopher, I was blown away by the wave of love, joy, gratitude, self-expression, and generosity that flowed throughout your wedding. I feel so lucky that I was able to be part of it and that I was welcomed as one of your tribe. Of course there were also moments of utter silliness, giddy excitement, and fierce photo shoot realness. That balance is what makes you two so special. I couldn’t be happier that the two of you are starting your life together as husbands.

Enjoy this sneak peek from your gorgeous wedding.

Theatrical Flushing Town Hall Wedding - Queens, NYC - Kellie and Marshall

“I’ve had enough of this mockery!”

It was the first time I had ever been to a wedding where somebody openly and loudly objected to what was taking place. There was a rush of adrenaline and shock when Brandon voiced his concern about Kellie and Marshall becoming husband and wife.

OK, it’s not as bad as what you’re thinking. Brandon’s interruption of Kellie and Marshall’s first dance was part of an elaborate show that was written and directed by the groom himself. Marshall is an award-winning director, writer, and composer, so it’s only fitting that their first dance had dialogue, plot twists, fight sequences, and of course some choreography as well. Not coincidentally, Kellie is a beautifully trained actor, singer, and dancer. The first dance was only one of the many theatrical highlights of the evening.

While the first dance was certainly electric, the most moving moment of the day was actually not for public consumption. Kellie and Marshall chose to read their vows to each other off microphone while some powerful music filled the ceremony space. Nobody could hear what Kellie and Marshall were saying to each other, but we could all see their emotion, and it was a beautifully intimate moment that moved many (myself included) to tears.

Kellie and Marshall, your wedding was so inventive, beautiful, and authentic to who you are. You both contribute so much to this world just by using your voices to create. And beyond all the artistic genius, you two are kind, generous, gracious humans. That’s the part that is most moving and makes me so happy about your wedding. I’m honored that you trusted me to capture your wedding day, and I couldn’t be happier for you two!!! Congratulations!!

Sag Harbor Wedding - Celina and Greg

I steadied myself on the slack line, bent down, and tried to take a step forward as I gently let go of the tree that I was holding onto. Immediately I lost balance and landed on the ground one foot below me. Slacklining is hard.

What does this have to do with a wedding? For Celina and Greg, everything. They wanted their wedding to be a chill, fun day of games and great food with their closest friends and family. I love that Celina and Greg decided to rent a house in Sag Harbor for the week so that their families could vacation together before having a wedding in the backyard… which was right on the water! On the wedding day, Celina’s father officiated an intimate ceremony before the families were joined by some of the couple’s closest friends for a beautiful day of slacklining, giant Jenga, cornhole, and other games that I’ve never heard of.

Celina and Greg, you successfully created a chill and playful beachside backyard celebration with incredible food. And more than that, you created a marriage that is so clearly meant to be. The two of you are so kind, so generous of spirit, so giving and loving to those around you. I’m inspired by the way you work together as a team and by the way you look at each other with unfiltered and unconditional love. I’m honored that you trusted me to capture your wedding day, and I couldn’t be happier for you two. Congratulations!

T Studio Wedding - Astoria Queens, NYC - Kelly and Johannes

“This is her favorite song,” Kelly said. Although the little girl was fast asleep at the wedding reception, Kelly gently scooped her up, headed to the dance floor, and proceeded to rock the little girl through the entire song, ensuring that she stayed fast asleep in her arms.

This is who Kelly is. Where most would have seen a losing situation (either wake the girl or have her miss dancing to her favorite song), Kelly saw a way to give this girl the best of both worlds.

Johannes and Kelly met at a jazz club while Johannes was visiting New York City from Germany. The two hit it off but didn’t think it could actually become anything, given the distance. However, they found themselves Skyping every night and visiting each other every few months for 5 years until Johannes moved to New York to be with Kelly.

You see, they both realized there wasn’t another Kelly or Johannes that was more conveniently located. This was the one. The only one.

Kelly and Johannes, I couldn’t be happier for you two. Kelly, you are the epitome of grace, kindness, and compassion, and you make everyone feel as though they are the most special person. Johannes, you are equally kind and so thoughtful and loving; your presence puts others at ease The two of you deserve each other, and that is a high compliment for both of you!

I’m so honored to have been trusted to capture your beautiful wedding day, and I’m thrilled to share these photos with you. Congratulations!

NYC Church Wedding - Brooklyn - Lily and Kevin

NYC Wedding Photographer New York Brooklyn Church

“I don’t have a dress yet,” Lily told me over the phone. It was a week before the wedding.

The thing is, there was no panic in her voice, no worry, no trouble at all. Instead, there was a playfulness and a sense of ease and joy. Because the dress isn’t what mattered to Lily and Kevin on their wedding day. The truth is, they could have worn paper bags down the aisle, and their generous, caring, loving, beautiful souls would have radiated throughout the church and would have still made everyone weep with joy. (Sidenote: everyone looked impeccable.)

Lily and Kevin, your wedding was so clearly about love and family. Personally, I love that you walked each other down the aisle. It was so moving that your fathers officiated the ceremony as your children stood on the altar with you. The love and support around you was so clearly a reflection of the people that you are.

Congratulations to you both and to your family! Enjoy this sneak peek from your wedding day.
