“I never want this feeling to end.”
I was fourteen years old, and I was hanging out with Rose and Deena in Manhattan (they were real city girls), and we had just ordered in some food and were singing show tunes. We were camp friends (shout out to French Woods!), but we had graduated to also becoming real friends and hanging out even outside of camp. I remember being with them and feeling so free, so accepted, so full of warmth, and I vividly remember thinking “I never want this feeling to end.”
A few months ago, Rose reached out to me as she was putting together her wedding. We hadn’t spoken in over 15 years, but all those feelings came flooding back, and it was like no time had passed at all. It was incredible to catch up, and it was profoundly moving to realize that I would get to be part of her wedding celebration, despite having lost touch over the years. “And Deena will be there!” she said.
Rose and Terrence (and baby bump!), there were so many very special parts of your wedding day. The most obvious was that I was able to reunite with two favorite childhood friends. The most satisfying part, however, was seeing the connection between you two. Terrence, you were instantly warm and inviting (and with a killer sense of humor), and although it’s not surprising, it makes me so happy to see that Rose has found herself a husband that is worthy of her. Rose, I’m so glad we were able to pick up right where we left off, and I couldn’t be more thrilled for you and your growing family. Congratulations to the two of you!
